"Mulgikross" came into being in 1986, when the local state farm, named after J.A. Gagarin, decided to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Gagarin’s space flight with a motocross. In co-operation with Viljandi Motoclub a motocross was organised on the Holstre-Nõmme track, with approximately 150 participants, including the best MX racers of the Soviet Union of that time. Since then, each and every year "Mulgikross" has taken place on the third Saturday of April, thus opening the motocross summer season in Estonia. "Mulgikross" has become one of the most prestigious competitions for Estonian motoracers and most popular with fans.
