Introduction to UBC commissions
The UBC is in the process of restructuring the Commissions to make the work they do more relevant, viable and active.
Consolidation of the Commissions is part of a larger renewal process of UBC. Its goal is to make UBC serve even better the interests of its Member Cities and citizens, as well as to ensure that UBC’s voice is heard and interests taken into account in European decision-making.
Instead of twelve, there are now seven new Commissions:
Cultural Cities
Formerly: Culture
Inclusive and Healthy Cities
Formerly: Health and Social Affairs, Sport
Planning Cities
Formerly: Urban Planning
Safe Cities
Formerly: Local Safety
Smart and Prospering Cities
Formerly: Business and Tourism, Education
Sustainable Cities
Formerly: Environment, Energy, Transportation
Youthful Cities
Formerly: Youth Issues
Former Commission on Gender Equality will continue as a Working Group. Each Commission should include in their forthcoming work plans information on how they will promote gender equality.
Much of the work of the UBC takes place within these commissions. They have numerous activities in their respective fields ranging from music festivals and sports events to concrete projects and training seminars.
But even an energetic and innovative commission without active member cities and partners is like a bicycle without wheels, so our devotion is necessary to keep these vehicles on the right track and moving. The following pages aim at briefly presenting the different commissions and their activities.
Please note that the new commissions’ pages are under construction and will be continuously updated.
Everyone is encouraged to contact the commissions and join their activities. And remember, the commissions have been established to promote cooperation between the UBC member cities. Now it is up to you to utilize this opportunity!
