Female Conference

In mid September about three hundred active women from all around the world assembled at Plazzo delle Stelline in Milan for the third Women's International Networking Conference W.I.N. 2000.

Ms Laima Zurgina, member of Riga City Council and a film director, participated representing the City of Riga and UBC Women's Network. Female representation: businesswomen, fund presidents, high school teachers, IT specialists, designers and journalists, discussed the latest possibilities for internet in economy, shared intercultural information, and practical problems concerning women's work and career and ability to alter it. There were panel discussions and workshops every day. Ms Zurgina was the only representative from the Baltic states in the conference.

Many participants paid much attention to her speech and showed sincere interest about the Baltic States and Latvia. In the panel session "Women of the world" she informed about the recent history of Latvia and the Baltic states, about gaining the independence and positive changes in recent ten years. Not without reason Latvia is proud of the woman president, Ms Vike-Freiberga. It's very important that women from our region have the possibility to participate in international conferences like this.
