 Pazaislis Music Festival

"Your small country has the capacity of the world level and it surprises that this small country may influence the global music culture" said Lord Yehudi Menuhin during his visit to Kaunas Pazaislis Music Festival. The Festival is the Lithuanian record-breaker in terms of duration and abundance of performers. The festival lasts three months-starts at the end of May and finishes at the end of August. Many performers of world-wide level participate in this event. The festival is organised in the chef-d'oeuvre of European architecture, the churchyard of Pazaislis St Kazimieras Congregation Monastery Church. The sound of music in the corner of beautiful nature and art surrounds the festival with the unique beauty. This music festival became not only a traditional annual event but also the event of European art. Life. In 2000, this event was organised for the fifth time already. The production of national drama performance on the occasion of the State Day (July 6th ) in the open air in the Kaunas castle, is a very important part of this festival, beloved among the spectators.

Another event of great importance is an annual four-day jazz festival "Kaunas Jazz", attracting performers from all over the world. This event celebrated the tenth anniversary this year. The inspirer, organiser and soul of the festival is Jonas Jueas, an extraordinary character in the political life of the City and State, City Councillor and the Parliament member.

In May 20, 2000, Kaunas celebrated city birthday – the City Day. It is expected that this festival with art and sport events will become a beautiful event that will attract thousands of inhabitants. Festival of sport dances "Amber Couple" organised by tireless enthusiasts is world-wide known, too.

The autumn season is marked with Kaunas County Days. People from the villages bring the products they cultivate in the fields and produce in agricultural enterprises. The festivity is ornamented with many dance and song activities. The end of year for past 30 years is crowned with the competition of folk groups "Grok Jurgeli!". The festival, which was previously organised only in Kaunas attracted the spectators from Vilnius as well.
