Sea Song Festival
|
The purpose of the Sea song Festival is to
revive and promote the nearly lost tradition of sea song
culture and to create new traditions. The XXII Sea song
Festival to be held during Kotka Maritime Festival is open
to all performers and performing groups. The competition
program consists of old and new sea songs.
Series A is for unaccompanied choirs and
song ensembles and Series B is for choirs and song ensembles
with accompaniment. The soloists' Series C is for a single
singer, who may have three accompanists at maximum. If the
soloist accompanies for himself, he is counted as a member
of the accompanying group and the accompaniment group may
not provide harmony vocals. Series D is for seamen working
in the trade, retired or studying the trade. The soloists
in series D may have a maximum of three accompanists, who
do not have to be working in the trade. The use of synthesiser
is allowed within the restriction of the series. The use
of background recordings is not allowed at all.
The competition will be held at the Kotka
Concert Hall on 27-28 July 2001. Duration of the performances
is maximum 10 minutes in series A and B and maximum 5 minutes
in series C and D. The number of the songs allowed is two.
The winners of the series are obliged to
perform during the Kotka Maritime Festival on 26–29 July
2001. The prizes are: FIM 11.000 for series A and B, FIM
8.000 for series C and FIM 7.000 for series D. The prizes
will be awarded at the discretion of the judges. The Rose
of Kotka Challenge Cup will be presented to the best winner
in the series.
