United Against Drugs

The project entitled "United Against Drugs" carried out by the Gdynia City Hall was realised as three-day workshops held from 24th to 26th April 2001. The workshop was addressed to various professional groups, such as police, social workers, therapists and selfgovernmental workers, briefly people engaged in drug addiction issues. Among the project participants there were representatives from three Gdynia's twin cities Karlskrona (Sweden), Kaliningrad (Russia) and Klaipeda (Lithuania).

The project was co-financed from Small Projects Fund within the PHARE Crossborder Cooperation Programme. The fund manager is Euroregion Baltic.

Thanks to the presentations prepared by each city, the project participants had the opportunity to get to know the drug situation in other partner cities. Besides, they paid a study visit to two centres operating within Tri City area: a centre "Gacek" run by Social Prevention Association "Mrowisko" and Youth Treatment Centre "Monar".

Thus, the project "United Against Drugs" aimed at, among others, the presentation of activities undertaken by partner cities with the view to reduce drug addiction risk and scope. The workshops were concluded with the formation of four contact groups whose main objective would be the improvement of information flow as well as the initiation of international cooperation in the field of drug addiction. Moreover, the project "United Against Drugs" was a great opportunity to integrate activities of local government, social services, therapists and NGOs.
