Meeting of the Commission on Tourism
All gathered in Liepaja to discuss tourism issues
The Commission met on 16-18 April in Latvian
Liepâja to discuss "How to make the Baltic Sea
Region more accessible and attractive". The topic fitted
well into the four thematic workshops to be discussed during
the X UBC GC in Kris-tiansand. The Commission agreed upon
the activity plan for the forthcoming summer season. As
usual there were interesting presentations from member cities
displayed. The external marketing of the UBC cities was
another topic covered during the meeting. This again was
connected with the BSR brand discussion going on in the
region for some time. The Commission also proceeded by the
end of March with the South Baltic Programme project "AGORA
2.0 - Heritage Tourism for Increased BSR Identity".
The objectives of the project - to increase the BSR identity
by heritage tourism, based on principles of sustainability
- are fully in line with the needs of this branch. The implementation
of AGORA 2.0 project corresponds with the upcoming and anticipated
'EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region'. The Commission
found Liepâja an excellent place for its meeting,
especially as the city has to offer the best tourism product
of the year in two categories: Follow the notes - a walking
tour in the downtown area and Visit Karosta - former military
base and prison.
