Museum Finland Depicted - in Hearts and Minds shows
the Finnish nature and scenery used and adapted as a spiritual
and material symbol of the nation. The landscapes of the
exhibition range from the middle of the 19th
century to 1910. You will find here leading Finnish artists
of the period and also documentary material on travel in
the early years of the last century, telling how the concepts
and ideas of landscape art were made to create an image
of Finland abroad.
The Glims Farmstead Museum is a glimpse of
the Espoo of yesterday. The old buildings of the Glims farm
are in their original locations in the well preserved cultural
landscape of Karvasmäki Village. The oldest buildings
are from the 18th century. The characters in
Mauri Kunnas's delightful Doghill books will come to Glims
for a long visit lasting almost a year. The exhibition The
Doghill Gang at Glims includes an activity room for
children, completed with puppet theatre, work demonstrations
etc.
The exhibition Beads Talk-Jewellery and
Ritual Objects from Western Africa tells about bead
production and trade over the centuries. It will also tell
about the symbols and religious significance with the use
of beads in Western Africa Today. The exhibition includes
objects from the collection of Helinä Rautavaara and
other individuals, supplemented by photos and films.
