EUROPEAN INDICATORS AND BALTIC 21
UBC Commission on Environment, together
with Commission of the European Communities, is organising
the translation and printing of European Common Indicators
to twelve East European languages. The aim of the European
Common Indicators is to improve monitoring of progress towards
sustainability and to provide objective and comparable information
from local authorities across Europe.
At the moment the material is available in
the official EU languages. Now indicators' Technical report
and Methodology sheets are translated to Bulgarian, Czech,
Croatian, Estonian, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish,
Romanian, Russian, Slovakian and Slovenian. In addition
Commission on Environment organises the dissemination of
the technical report and promotion of the initiative to
target groups.
UBC Commission on Environment is also currently
starting a feasibility study about European Common Indicators
in monitoring Baltic 21 in the cities of Baltic Sea Region.
It got recently funding for the study from Nordic Council
of Ministers.
