Road Safety Competition 2010

Dear Friends,

Road traffic crashes are one of the world's largest public health and injury prevention problems. In every crash and fatality statistic, 16 - 24-year-old drivers are greatly over-represented. They pose a greater risk to themselves, their passengers and to other road users than other drivers do. Young driver crashes differ from those of more experienced drivers, in that they happen at night, are often single vehicle crashes (with no other vehicles involved), frequently as a result of "loss of control" and high speed. Even alcohol consumption in low quantities has a greater impact on youngsters than on experienced drivers.

Being aware of the problem, the Commission on Transportation has decided to announce a "Road Safety Competition 2010" for UBC member cities.
Enclosed please find the rules of participation in the "Road Safety Competition 2010" together with an application form.
The deadline for sending project proposals is 5th October 2010. Completed application forms should be sent to the UBC Commission on Transportation Secretariat by e-mail (ubctransport@gdynia.pl) or by fax: +4858 668 82 10.

Should you have any questions do not hesitate to contact the UBC Commission on Transportation Secretariat.

With best regards,

Zygmunt Zmuda-Trzebiatowski
Chairman
UBC Commission on Transportation
