Culture Centre

Siauliai is called the cultural centre of
North Lithuania. Although Siauliai does not have the traditional
Old Town, there is still a lot to look at: original Pedestrian
Boulevard, well-managed and green dwelling areas, the Sundial
Square, Renaissance masterpiece – the Cathedral, and the
Hill of Crosses.
Art Gallery
One of the famous places in Siauliai is Art
Gallery, known as the Palace of Exhibitions and one of the
main centres of Fine Arts. The exhibitions include works
of pictorial art, sculpture, graphics art, photography,
installations, applied arts, video art and others. There
are also the interdisciplinerial projects, performances,
and shows of vanguard fashion and concerts of different
music. The Gallery organises also the discussions, concerning
the particular subject f. ex. publications, etc. One of
the most important events in the Gallery is a project of
visual art and music "Zuvys". The annual festival of the
Alternative Art and Fashion called "Virus" also takes place
there.
Festivals
 The
festival of the country musicians and countryside orchestras
"Ant Rubeziaus" racketed for the first time on 2-3 of June.
The record number of 400 parti-cipants was gathered. The
festival was diversified with a new merriment: the longest
table of town-dwellers. To everyone's joy the competent
jury measured the table, and it was announced that the previous
record of 126 meters was beaten – the length of the table
was 159,8 meters. The organiser became the farmstead of
the accordion players – countryside musicians from all around
of the country made their accordions to cry dancers exercised
their feet, and folkartists organised their concert – eveningparty.
Another festival of air balloons "Gubernijos
Cup -2000" took place on the 16-17 June.
On the 23-25th of June the very first in
history of Siauliai Aviation Joninës started with the flights
of the town-dwellers. Hundreds of Siauliai town-dwellers
had a possibility to inspect war aircraft's and watch acrobatic
feats. The culmination of the festival was the flight of
Jurgis Kairys, the outstanding pilot in the world. His "cobras"
riveted attention of everyone.
