 Theatre Festival

The Jurmala Theatre has a pleasure to inform you that the 4th International Theatre Festival "Skatuve Jurmala – 2001" will take place in Jurmala from 18th to 21st of July 2001. The aim of the festival is to get know creative researches of theatres of different countries and to accentuate theatre as the most democratic art in the international communication.

The next festival "Skatuve Jurmala 2001" will last for four days. Like in previous years the theatre troupes will show their performances, watch the productions of other participants, take part in the creative workshops and will establish new contacts during the different activities of the festival. As usual, all performances will be observed by group of theatre professionals.

Theatres from 8 countries will take part in 10 performances during the festival. The genres of the performances are going to be different – starting with the classic up to the modern dramaturgy and absurd.

In the previous year the participants were from Latvia, Lithuania, England, Russia, Germany, Poland, Finland and Denmark. The proffesiionals who observe all performances brought forward following nominations:

  • the most interesting stage direction – Imants Jaunzems, Ventspils, Latvia;
  • the best actress – Badria Timini, Theatre "West", England;
  • the best actor – Andris Lasmanis, Ventspils Theatre, Latvia.

During the festival the meetings for directors and theatre managers were organised to enable them discussions and debates over performances. The participants could also take part in the creative workshop "The structure and architecture of the mise-en-scene".
