SUPPORTING EVERYDAY LIFE

A project "Supporting everyday life" was started in Estonia last year. The aim of the project is to help the mentally disabled people and people with mental disorders to manage their everyday life and thereby enable them to live independent life of full value.

Keila social care centre offers many possibilities for the disabled. One of them is help of specialists, who listen the worries, guard that these people manage their money matters and supporting the families. The centre offers dinner for a symbolic fee and teaches the mentally disabled to cook themselves.

The different handicraft circles are very popular, like the bible hour or aerobics. Those, who wish, can study computer and interest for that has been surprising. The centre has also organised lectures, excursions, theatre visitations and exhibitions. One very important, but difficult issue is to find work for the mentally disabled. So far they have made dolls for the children's department of the Keila hospital and done some seasonal jobs, like packing plastic and paper dishes.

The long perspective goals of the centre are to help the mentally disabled and people with mental disorders to become more independent, to get better on with their lives, also to improve their living conditions and help them to find a job.
