BEST CITY PRACTICES
Five city couples have been chosen into
the Best City Practices project according to their applications.
All the city couples include a city with a good environmental
practice ('guiding city') and a city interested in learning
and implementing this good practice ('partner city/learning
city').
At the moment the city pairs are doing study
visits. The study visits will be reported in the second
BCP workshop, which will be organised 7-10 June near Kaunas,
Lithuania.
The chosen city couples are:
- Sundsvall (Sweden) with its Agenda 21 process and Sopot
(Poland)
- Bützow (Germany) with its Agenda 21 process and
Sillamäe (Estonia)
- Turku (Finland) with its Air Quality Monitoring and
Panevëzys (Lithuania)
- Gotland (Sweden) with its Environmental Bus and ECAT
Lithuania
- Elblag (Poland) with its Environmental Education program
and Šiauliai (Lithuania)
In the BCP project, task of the city pairs
is to do a feasibility study e.g. to find out if it is possible
to implement the good practice of the guiding city in the
learning city. During summer, city pairs will continue the
feasibility studies and their results will be reported in
the third workshop, autumn 2001. After the third workshop,
the whole project will be reported by UBC EnvCom Secretariat.
