YOUTH AGAINST AIDS

An association "Youth against AIDS" was established in December 1997 and registered in 1998.

Its main objective is to be an informative body dealing with youth and society at reproductive age. The association leads the instructing work about HIV/AIDS, STD (sexual transmitting diseases) and its prophylactics in order to help to limit the spreading of those diseases. We talk about the sexual education and family planning work not only with youth but also with risk groups like "street children" or parents and teachers.

Special activities that should be mentioned are active, regular informativeeducational works at discotheque. The workers do there social questionnaires and distribute information materials. Within the "Discotheque project" questionnaires were prepared and evaluated . The representative of the YAA participated at Molin`s conference about HIV/AIDS at Spain. They participated also at radio "99 1/2" formed broadcast "Me, You, He, She" with quiz questions about HIV/AIDS, STD and sexuality".

We have handed in project at Sorros Found competition about youth creativeeducational summer camp for ethnical minorities, to help them integrate in Latvian environment and receive information of full value about youth sexual education and family planning, HIV/AIDS and STDs prophylactics. Our association co-operates also with a dealer of leading condom producer in Latvia.

We also prepare informative materials about youth sexual upbringing, STD prophylactics, family planning and reproductive health.
