The Anthem of the Union of the Baltic Cities
UBC Task Force on Youth Employment and Well-Being

Dear UBC members,

At the latest Board Meeting in March in Lahti, the board had a fruitful discussion on the upcoming General Conference as well as the actions and progress connected with the implementation of the UBC Strategy 2010-2015 and its Action Plan as decided at the General Conference in Kristiansand.

We also launched two processes linked to specific tasks, among them drafting of the Strategy for Marketing and Communication, with the cities of Kiel and Kristiansand taking lead in this process.

The Presidium was asked to go on with the vitalisation of the Strategy implementation process. Our wish is to see, that we can already in the forthcoming Board meeting in June, as well as in the General Conference, report major steps in this process.

Accordingly, we kindly ask member cities and commissions to put forward proposals concerning  priorities and implementation of the Strategy Plan as well as suggestions for implementation. We are also very keen to hear about your readiness to take responsibility or to participate in the preparation and implementation of various tasks.

No doubt a lot of resources are at hand in cities and commissions, and linking your expertise directly to the topics of the Strategy Plan will bring us forward in making a strong basis for the further development of the UBC.

Also, a further focus on the possibilities of using EU-projects as a part of our Baltic development will make transborder cooperation more vivid and prosperous. We welcome also proposals and ideas in this respect.

We, therefore, attach the Strategy Plan to this message, with the hope it will challenge once again all UBC members with the result, that we shall hopefully receive a lot of valid propositions.

I also attract your attention to the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region and its Action Plan. The UBC can a central player in this work. Further information can be found at:

Please do not hesitate to contact the Secretariat, the President or the Vice-Presidents if any questions or proposals!

Looking forward to hearing from a lot of you.

On behalf of the Presidency,

Per Bødker Andersen
President of the UBC
