“Modern city for its inhabitants – how ICT can help develop social capital?”

City of Gdańsk is looking for partners to the project

Gdańsk is one of the Polish cities which uses ICT to develop and maintain relationships between local residents and local authorities. The City Hall of Gdańsk is intending to take part in the programme “Europe for Citizens ”, managed by the European Commission. The City of Gdańsk invites other European cities and NGOs to cooperate  and become a partner in the project.

In the framework of the projects, a space for discussing and exchanging best practices of using IT solutions for the cooperation between local authorities and inhabitants of Europe an cities is going to be created.

Four conferences are planned to take place in 2016 and 2017.
The representatives of European local authorities, scientists and NGOs will discuss the following issues:

  • How new technologies affect relations between local government and city inhabitants?
  • How technologies can be used for a better governance of cities?
  • Can technology improve the quality of relations between the inhabitants and local governments?
  • Participatory budgets in the digital world – promotion, discussion, voting, feedback.
  • ICT technology and the development of local initiatives.
  • How technology could help engage more inhabitants in urban areas development
  • Technology for streamlining public consultations, dialogue with inhabitants and NGOs.
  • Open data in managing a modern city.
  • New communications ch annels between the local authorities and its inhabitants.

The project will be financed by the “Europe for Citizens” programme.

The costs of travel and accommodation will be covered by the grant. The beneficiaries of the project should arrange free conference spaces in the cities where meetings will be held.

The City of Gdańsk kindly ask the interested cities to confirm their participation in the project no later than 17 August.
