To UBC Member Cities, Commissions
and General Conference Speakers/Participants
SUBJECT: UBC General Conference in Mariehamn; Action programme to promote youth employment and well-being
Dear colleagues and friends,
The main theme of the Mariehamn General Conference is “Investing in Youth”. We in UBC want to do our share in helping to solve one of the biggest problems facing European societies by developing an Action programme to promote youth employment and well-being.
It has been prepared jointly by the Finnish UBC Member Cities, and it attached to this message.
I sincerely hope, that al Member Cities and Mariehamn speakers carefully study this Action Programme, which can function as a useful basic document for our discussions in the General Conference. I do hope, that you will bring your own experiences and ideas with you, so that we can gather good practices from many cities and sources.
Our intention is to nominate in Mariehamn a Task Force on Youth Employment and Well-being, which shall work until the General Conference in 2015. It will follow up the discussions in Mariehamn and help cities to find effective methods to promote our common goal.
The Task Force should work hand in hand with the Commission of Youth Issues and other interested UBC Commissions. It could be composed of interested Member Cities representatives but also other experts – maybe some social partners could join the work, for example representatives of Trade Unions and Employers unions, the Economic and Social Council ECOSOC and Committee of the Regions of the EU, and relevant European Commission representatives.
I would be glad if you could consider participating the work of the proposed Task Force and inform the UBC Secretariat about this, preferably before the Mariehamn General Conference.
Yours,
Per Boedker Andersen
