SUBJECT: DEFININING COMMON CRITERIA FOR EVALUATING THE WORK OF UBC COMMISSIONS

Dear friends and colleagues,

I am writing to you on behalf of the UBC Executive Board and in my capacity as the Strategy Coordinator in a matter which is of special significance for our future success.

Therefore, I hope that you will study it carefully and send your comments and proposals by the dead-line 15 May 2012. Through active participation of Member Cities and Commissions, we can fulfil a crucial dimension of our UBC Strategy 2010-2015.

Attached you find the decision by the Executive Board of UBC in Brussels 14.2.2012 on “Establishing common criteria for evaluation of the Commission work”.

It proposes that in the future, we will use eight different criteria (points 1-8) in evaluating the effectiveness and outreach of the work carried out in Commissions.  As you note, the criteria are not only numerical but also qualitative, to take into account that various commissions have adopted different working methods.

You are now encouraged to comment on these proposed criteria by the dead line 15 May 2012 to the General Secretariat.

After that, the final proposal will be prepared for adoption in the Rakvere meeting of the Board (24 May 2012). The final criteria will be used when the Board will evaluate Commissions and decide on financial support to the Commissions work for year 2013 and onwards.
