Workshop on Implementing Sustainable Economic Development in Cities

Dear Sir/Madam,

UBC Commission on Environment and the Zennström Philanthropies Foundation, have a great pleasure of inviting you to participate in the Baltic Sea Regional Workshop— Implementing Sustainable Economic Development in Cities and Municipalities on 6th May 9.45 - 17.30 2014 in Stockholm, Sweden. The event will focus on sharing best practices, identifying paths to funding sustainable development, economic opportunities arising from new environmental markets, learning about existing environmental regulations and how cities can leverage environmental projects into increased revenues and attracting highly skilled workers and inhabitants.

We are looking for interested representatives of Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian and Polish cities to join the workshop and to share their ideas for future environmental activities and investments. These can be connected to water protection, energy, tourism and other important issues of the cities. The workshop provides participants with the opportunity to hear presentations and join panel discussions about how different ways cities can benefit from environmental investments and projects. In addition, the event is an excellent place for information exchange. Therefore, we hope for the attendance of someone from your organization that has authority to make decisions and who is also willing to engage with sustainability issues and Zennström Foundation.

We have hand-selected 30 stakeholders and leaders to join us including several companies and a handful of municipalities to discuss how we can spur economic growth through focusing on clean technologies and green markets and currently there are only couple of seats available.

Your presence will greatly enrich our discussions. Please confirm your participation to Ms Hannamaria Yliruusi (hannamaria.yliruusi@ubc.net) as soon as possible latest by Monday 28.4. We would like to highlight that the seats are very limited and available on a first come first serve basis.

There is a possibility to negotiate support for travel expenses for city representatives, if the support is necessary.

Please find attached: letter of invitation and program.

Event location: Swedish Parliament Building, Stockholm
