Meeting of the UBC Commission on Environment

Dear UBC Friends,

We are very happy that so many have registered to our meeting UBC Commission on Environment meeting in Sopot although the short notice. If there is still some cities that would like to register you are warmly welcome. We have extended the registration date until Monday the 30 of May. Attached is the invitation, draft agenda, registration form and practical information.

Year 2004 was very eventful with the new member states entering the EU and new projects and processes starting also in the UBC. The UBC Agenda 21 Action Programme 2004-2009 - Roadmap for Sustainable Baltic Cities - has made a highly successful start. The programme has to date mobilised a budget of over 6 Million euros in different projects and a comprehensive survey of sustainable development in Baltic Cities has been carried out. In Sopot we will be reporting on the survey - on the state and trends of sustainability in Baltic Cities - as well as sharing information on different new projects. We would like to strongly encourage you to take this opportunity and contribute with your good ideas on how to continue the exciting processes started and how to make use of the UBC EnvCom to strengthen the cities' voice in the region and in EU. New activities and projects are continuously in the pipeline and we need your input and participation to make them as good and useful for the Baltic Cities as possible.

Please, find here the Invitation Letter / Introduction from the Mayor
of Sopot and the UBC EnvCom co-chairmen, the draft Programme/Agenda, the registration form and practical information. Please remember to register on the latest 25 May by sending the filled in registration form to anna.granberg@turku.fi or by fax to +358 262 3450.

We are looking forward to your seminal participation and innovative
contributions!
