Meeting of the UBC Commission on Urban Planning

Dear colleagues,

The UBC Commission on Urban Planning and the City of Gdansk warmly invite you to the "Baltic Towers - Contribution to the City and Community" seminar on 2nd - 4th of April, 2009.

The seminar focuses on urban and social aspects of high-rise buildings by combining a study about the reality of high-rise buildings in the Baltic cities, lectures and - as known to the participants of the previous CUP seminars - working together in workshops.

Below there is the 1st version of the seminar agenda and workshops together with useful information about our host town and the registration form. A very important part of the seminar is the enclosed questionnaire about tall buildings and your own experiences of them. We wish that you could fill in the
questionnaire and send it by e-mail to ubc.seminar@brg.gda.pl or by fax to +48 58 308 44 49 by February 15th. If there are many participants coming from your city, all of you don't need to return the questionnaire, because the aim of this questionnaire is to get a general picture of high-rise building solutions, problems and benefits in the Baltic Sea Area.

There is no registration fee for the seminar, but the seminar participants are supposed to cover their own travel and accommodation costs and make their own travel and hotel reservations. The seminar organizers recommend hotel Wolne Miasto (reservation by e-mail rezerwajca@hotelwm.pl) or hotel Aureus (reservation by e-mail aureusgdansk@fortenhotels.pl). In the enclosed "announcement.pdf"-file you'll find detailed information about hotel locations and prices. According to the UBC rules, seminar participants coming from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania or Poland may get some financial support for their travel expenses from the Commission on special request and if the Commission so decides. The number of seminar participants is limited to 45 (we still apply the One Bus Principle), so send in your registration form to Marta Jaskulska to ubc.seminar@brg.gda.pl latest on March 1st!

Cordially,

Sirpa Kallio
