The Easter festivities in Helsinki begin on Good Friday with the Via Crucis – Stages of the Cross procession through the city centre. Based on medieval traditions, the procession begins in Kaisaniemi Park and culminates on the steps of Helsinki Cathedral. On the following day Easter bonfires are lit on Seurasaari Island to ward off evil spirits, and children dress up as trolls with coffee pots and brooms.
